ࡱ> JLI 6bjbjVV 4<<6 ||9NtMMMMMMM$OORMMMIII MIMII\HL O"I,M N09NJSSXLSL"I$MM9NS| : INTERNATIONAL AND FOREIGN LEGAL RESEARCH Spring 2011 Tom Kimbrough In-Class Exercises and Readings Discussion Board Participation (collectively, with on-time attendance, 15% of final grade) In-Class Exercises In-class exercises (not a quiz) will be handed out at certain points during most class sessions. The purpose of the exercises is to give the students a chance to practice their international and foreign law research skills. The content of the students responses is not graded. In other words, students receive full credit for this component of the course by attending class and doing the best that they can on the exercises. The instructor will be standing by to help the students with the exercises. Students are also encouraged to help each other. The desired class atmosphere during this time is lively and relatively informal. At the end of the class, the instructor will collect the students individual responses to the exercise questions. It is not necessary for a student to answer all of the exercise questions in order to receive full credit; in fact, it is preferable to spend more time on fewer questions than to rush through the exercises in order to complete all of them. The instructor will return the exercise responses to each of the students, together with the instructors written feedback and suggestions to each individual student, as well as model answers to the exercise questions, at the next class meeting (or as soon as possible). Readings Discussion Board Participation Each student should post a message to the Readings Discussion Board in our TWEN page at least three times during this semester. You may create a new topic or respond to a comment under an existing topic. The content of the students opinion is not graded, but more credit will be given to students who regularly contribute thoughtful comments (as opposed to merely perfunctory statements). The messages posted to the Readings Discussion Board should pertain to either: the students own thoughts, reactions, or questions regarding any of the assigned (required or optional) reading materials, lectures, CALI lessons, etc. the students own reaction (agree or disagree, and the students reasons for agreeing or disagreeing) to another students (or the instructors) posting on the Board. There is no limit to the number of times that a student may post a message. The purpose is to provide a forum for discussion since our class time is limited. Note -- Feel free to disagree with others opinions, but always express your disagreement in a polite, respectful manner.
