About
The ³ÉÈËÊÓƵBiennial Salary Survey & Organizational Characteristics (also known as the Salary Survey) provides up-to-date information on salaries, benefits, job titles, and responsibilities for more than 20 law library positions. The report also provides quantitative information based on the following data points: location, number of people supervised, education, and years of experience. Additional details specific to library type are also included. Digital access to the Salary Survey is provided as a free benefit to all current members.
Since 1993, ³ÉÈËÊÓƵhas conducted and published the Salary Survey to provide comprehensive compensation information for legal information professionals working in academic, firm/corporate, and government law libraries. It is the only in-depth resource of its kind for the profession, and is designed to support budgeting endeavors and salary negotiations. The Economic Status of Law Librarians Committee reviews and revises the questions, job titles, and position descriptions for each edition to ensure the publication is up-to-date.
Invitations to participate in the 2025 ³ÉÈËÊÓƵSalary Survey were sent to those in director-level roles on May 27.
Important information about the 2025 edition:
- Improved Usability – The survey has been significantly reformatted for easier navigation, with a new layout that groups related factors by position and library type, streamlining both participation and use of results.
- Updated Titles & Descriptions – Based on member feedback, the Economic Status of Law Librarians Committee revised job titles and descriptions to better reflect today’s roles. Updates in the firm/corporate section now more clearly show advancement by seniority and management level.
- Confidentiality First – As always, responses remain anonymous. Industry Insights suppresses data sets with fewer than five individuals before review to protect respondent identity.
- Secure Data Handling – ³ÉÈËÊÓƵnever sees or stores raw data. All survey administration and analysis are handled exclusively by Industry Insights, ensuring privacy and integrity.
